The Foreclosure Prevention Project
Who Are We?
In partnership with Home Headquarters, the Foreclosure Prevention Project at Legal Services of Central New York provides help to homeowners in foreclosure in Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga and Oswego Counties. Services can range from advice and counsel on a foreclosure matter to complete representation in defense of a foreclosure proceeding.
The focus of this program is providing assistance to homeowners with “subprime”, “high-cost” and “non-traditional” home loans that are in foreclosure, and who want to remain in their home. People interested in this program should first contact Home Headquarters at (315) 474-1939 to speak to a foreclosure prevention counselor.
If your home is in foreclosure, do not wait.
New York’s 2008 Mortgage Lending Reform Laws
If you closed on the purchase of your home between January 1, 2003 and September 1, 2008, your mortgage may be subject to the 2008 Mortgage Lending Reform Laws. These changes to existing mortgage foreclosure laws are designed to help homeowners with subprime, high-cost, and non-traditional home loans that are in foreclosure. You may be able to benefit from these laws if you find your home in foreclosure.
The Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan
Recent economic conditions have created especially devastating consequences for many homeowners in communities across New York State. The Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan is part of a comprehensive strategy to help millions of homeowners facing the possibility of foreclosure. By providing access to low cost financing and support for responsible homeowners and supporting low mortgage rates by strengthening confidence in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, this federal government initiative hopes to prevent up to 9 million families facing foreclosure. More details will become available in early March, 2009. Check back for updates or contact the foreclosure Prevention Project to see how this program may help you.
